July 15, 2008 he fell into a crevasse during an attempt to open a new route to the top of Himalayan Mountain Nanga Parbat. "Karl Unterkircher was the new rising star of mountain climbing". This guy was very strong mentally and physically. He was also considered one of the best climbers in both field’s ice & rock climbing. According to his fellow climbers during Nanga Parbat expedition in 2008 Karl was very confident to climb mighty giant(Nanga Parbat) in three days.
